Jeff Rudman, a graduate of Loyola Law School, litigated and tried cases on behalf of clients for over 25 years in personal injury, wrongful death, and employment matters. Jeff has regularly given presentations on these areas of practice at continuing legal education conferences and frequently writes articles in legal magazines and newspapers.
In 2020, Jeff served as the President of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), the largest local trial lawyers association in the country. In both his career as an attorney and in his many years as a bar leader, Jeff has always conducted himself with civility and professionalism, recognizing that whether attorneys represent plaintiffs or defendants, they are all members of a legal community doing their best to represent the interests of, and bring justice to, their clients.
Jeff received training in mediating litigated cases, and obtained his certificate, from Pepperdine Law School. He thereafter began regularly serving as a mediator for the Resolve Law program in Los Angeles. He is now fully dedicating his career to a private mediation practice, wanting to help parties resolve their cases, and achieve closure on sensitive issues in their lives. He continues to study the art of mediation and negotiation on a daily basis, learning cutting edge techniques so the parties can obtain the highest probability of a settlement. Jeff is on Judicate West's panel of neutrals
During his 25 years of practice as a litigator and trial attorney, Jeff represented clients in hundreds of mediations and witnessed various mediation styles from evaluative to facilitative. He learned which approaches worked best given different types of matters, clients, attorneys and insurance representatives involved.
Most importantly, Jeff always found that the most effective mediators shared common traits. Firstly, they were always well prepared. They thoroughly read the briefs and evidence submitted by the parties, and were well versed in the areas of law that were central to the dispute. If not enough information was provided, they reached out before the mediation to obtain it. Secondly, the best mediators were friendly, sensitive, empathetic and compassionate to not only the parties, but to the attorneys and insurance representatives as well, recognizing that all involved are greatly impacted by the events giving rise to the dispute, and the often-contentious legal process that follows. Whether it be the litigants who have been damaged, or accused of causing damage, or the attorneys and insurance representatives that have put great time, effort and expense towards the matter, all deserve the mediator's utmost understanding. Finally, the best mediators worked incredibly hard to facilitate negotiations and bring the case to a close. They did not simply shuttle offers and demands, they did not easily give up or lose hope in the opportunity to resolve the case, and they put in time following up post-mediation, when it was necessary to achieve resolution.
Jeff adopts these principals and applies his own life experiences to each mediation as he works relentlessly with compassion and vigor, so all parties feel heard and obtain a sound and satisfactory settlement.
